Steve Harvey Shifts His Bigotry from Atheists to Asians — No One is Amused

Steve Harvey is a human piece of excrement.

Famous for his comedy (if that’s what you want to call it), Harvey has branched out into giving people advice via his daytime talk show, despite his lack of any professional experience or expertise in that arena. His show has been on the air since 2012, is slated for cancellation this year, but reportedly will be replaced by a different show hosted by Harvey.

Throughout his career, Harvey has criticized multiple racial, ethnic, and religious groups who he doesn’t identify with.  Many readers will recall his multiple ignorant rants against atheists, wherein he accused us of being idiots with no moral barometer.  In one interview on CNN, he successfully disproved evolution with the following wisdom: “[If we evolved from monkeys, then] why we still got monkeys?”

I wish I could figure that one out, oh wise one.  Now go retrieve your Nobel Prize, genius.

Well, it seems that the devout Christian is still having trouble “loving thy neighbor,” as he recently insulted Asian men on his show.  While reviewing dating books during an episode, he brought up a book entitled, How to Date a White Woman: A Practical Guide for Asian Men.  He instantly ridiculed the idea of any woman ever wanting to date an Asian man, by asserting that the book should only one page long, with just one question. “Do you like Asian men?” He answered his own question for the women of America, “No.”  Then he did what a lot of bad comedians do.  He pretended to laugh so hard he couldn’t control himself, since he wasn’t getting the laugh he hoped for. He tried to will a bigger laugh from the audience. Sad.

After airing, Harvey’s approach to Asians caused a bit of an uproar. It seems he finally issued a public insult that offended people ready to fight back. No one really cared about what he said about atheists in the past (except atheists), because insulting us for having an evidence-based worldview is somehow ok.  And making fun of white people is also acceptable, because we have a history of oppressing everyone else, so I guess we deserve it. No one says a thing.  But Asians? He’s not getting away with that one.

Eddie Huang, a well-known restaurateur, author and television host, who happens to be of Asian descent, quickly penned an op-ed for the New York Times on Sunday titled, “Hey, Steve Harvey, Who Says I Might Not Steal Your Girl?” In it, Huang nails Harvey on the head, saying, “he’s the type of guy who orders Krug champagne for himself and Cook’s for everyone else. For his own personal profit, he’s willing to perpetuate the emasculation of Asian men regardless of how hypocritical it is.”  The champagne reference makes more sense if you read the full op-ed, sorry.  Basically, Steve Harvey is an asshole.

The op-ed made the rounds and at one point was trending on Facebook. Succumbing to pressure, Harvey issued an apology via Twitter:

Steve Harvey, your ignorance disgusts me as an American. You have been fortunate enough to find success in this country. It’s time you respect it by respecting its people and their diversity.  Diversity is something to be celebrated, not made fun of or admonished.  If you’re only interested in interacting with and respecting those who look like you, talk like you, and pray like you, then I suggest you find a place that fits that bill.  This great nation is not the place for you.

  1. Wow, this guy’s an even more despicable putz than he seemed when he was bashing atheists.

And what does he mean when he says that obviously-offensive remarks weren’t intended to offend? That’s dangerously close to a not-pology. Harvey is both childishly undisciplined and blatantly dishonest — which makes him a perfect fit in a Trump White House.

  2. I am black, and so is my family of course… I don’t know anyone in the liberal, educated or secular black community who likes Steve Harvey…I always thought he appealed mostly to bigoted Christians of all colors. He’s an embarrassment to them of course.
